Chess Club had a wonderful chess lesson with the intermediate/advanced group! A classic checkmate was demonstrated so easily using a chess board editor available on the web.  The children ‘hung’ on every move. Awesome really!
Then we also celebrated Valentine’s Day at Chess Club, by replacing the White Queens with red chocolate hearts and the Black Queen with Easter eggs in our first round of games. Obviously, everybody took extra care of their Queens but nevertheless, there were some big smiles for some adept players who won both queens!

Sport activities is a basis of children’s healthy minds and bodies. Furthermore, funny sport activities are much more better! On Friday 17 February, the learners from Grade R - 3 at FHPS participated in a Fun Sports Day. There were 3 legged races, duck in a pond races plus group races for each class and even moms & dads. (Teachers were excused!) The parents supported their children very well! After lots of fun, the children could join their parents for a picnic. The teachers of FHPS wish to thank parents of our pupils for their great support in carrying out this event!

Each year on February 22, World Thinking Day, girls and boys participate in activities and projects with global themes to honour Girl Guides and Scouts in other countries. World Thinking Day not only gives girls and boys a chance to celebrate international friendships, but is also a reminder that Girl Guides and Scouts are a part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.  The girl guides and scouts of Fish Hoek Primary Community wore their uniforms to school to celebrate this day.

On Thursday, 9 February, 51 of our swimmers took part in a gala held at Reddam where there were 10 other schools. This was our first experience of a proper gala, and we were extremely excited, and also a bit nervous! Our children looked smart, were very well behaved and also swam their best races ever. We are very proud of them all. Swimming at FHPS is still developing, but we can now see some improvement. Thank you to the dedicated coaches, who looked very smart in their new clothes, thanks to Mr Williams. We also want to thank our wonderful parents, who were there in vast numbers to support and encourage their children.

On Saturday our Athletics Team participated in an Interschools' Athletics Competition held at Fish Hoek
High School. It was a very hot morning but we all did our best and performed well. The following athletes have made it through to the next round of competition: Cameron Lawson, Joy Hamandishe, Naomi Durr, Timothe Kangolo, Gloria Kankolongo, Caitlin Brouckaert, Sarah Underwood, Storm Chambers, Olivia Okes, Lindsay Raganya, Yola Damoyi. Well done to all of you!

On Valentine’s Day, the children at Fish Hoek Primary School celebrated their love for their hearts, along with Hearty, the official mascot of the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa (HSFSA), who will be turning 20 this year.

To celebrate his birthday, which falls on 14th February, Hearty brought his own brand of informative entertainment, singing songs about eating healthily and being active, to the children of Fish Hoek Primary School. Hearty is loved by kids and helps the HSFSA to encourage them to enjoy a healthy lifestyle from a young age.

Our learners at the school bought stickers for R5 each to wear on Valentine's Day, and each child took home a Red Heart tin to help raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The 3 U10 cricket teams have made a superb start to the season, winning 6 out of 7 games. Most of the boys are still U9 but are getting to grips with the skills of the game. There is a long way to go, but the boys, and girls, are learning fast. Keep the U10 cricket machine rolling!!!
