Chess
“When you see a good move, look for a better one” - Emanuel Lasker
Fish Hoek Primary Chess Club was started in the third term of 2011 and it is thriving. We have approximately 50 players meeting on a weekly basis with two chess club meetings. The Chess Club provides a fun environment for kids to come and play chess with each other, regardless of their skill. Each chess club meeting starts with some form of instruction, with the main objective of chess being enjoyable. We are teaching from the basics to studying tactics and strategies. We do this by solving puzzles or having quiz competitions. We even had a chocolate chess championship playing with chocolate chess pieces! The chess club also stimulates a lot of interest in the game by having our own club leagues for beginner, intermediate and advanced players. This makes for some exciting games. Although the chess club is still young, we hope that we will be competing with other primary schools in the coming year by playing in Tournament Competitions. Our chess players are certainly aspiring towards this goal. Co-ordinator: Mrs Hanlie van Zyl |
