Sunflower Fund
The past year has been an exceptionally busy and productive one with regard to support for the Sunflower Fund. Our partnership with Valley Christian Church has become a signature event which we took part in, with SCAD (Sarah Cookney Academy of Dance) to produce a spectacular and world-class event. Big stage, sound, lights, screens and special effects contributed to make this a show on par with any West End musical! The children's artworks were also sold over the course of the 3 evenings. When the last dance was danced and the last song was sung, a total amount of R91336.30 was raised for the Sunflower Fund. Some of the show items were performed again at the V&A Waterfront on Bandana Day, 17th September. For further info see http://www.sunflowerfund.org.za/
| Bandana Day
Fish Hoek Primary supports Bandana Day! On the 12th October we wear our Bandana's to show your Solidarity towards the brave fight that these patients face daily. All the money raised is put towards assisting The Sunflower Fund in increasing the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR), which exists to find and match bone marrow stem cell donors for patients who need a transplant, such as those with leukaemia and other life threatening blood disorders.

Heart Foundation
On 14 February 2011 we called on all Fish Hoek Primary learners, parents and teachers to pledge their support of the HSFSA’s annual fundraising and awareness campaign named: I LOVE THIS!
We 'painted the school red' and showed our peers and community how much we cared…each class made a heart, dressed in red, and had a theme. We had great fun and raised R4000. For more info about this worthwhile community involvement, visit http://www.heartfoundation.co.za/ | Breadtags for Wheelchairs
One really simple initiative which requires extremely little effort on our part as consumers is the Bread Tag programme. Few people know, but Polystyrene has amazing recycling properties. If we care to recycle, polystyrene can be recycled up to 20 times.
So Fish Hoek Primary collects bread tags. Not only do we make a positive impact on our environment by helping this highly common waste product avoid landfill, but we trade the breagtags for wheelchairs. For more details of this simple but life-changing programme and how you can become an integral part in cleaning up your environment whilst helping the needy at the same time, visit http://www.polystyrenepackaging.co.za/ |
Mandela 67 Minutes
Mr Mandela has spent 67 years making the world a better place. On the 18th July, Fish Hoek Primary joined the world in celebrating Nelson Mandela's birthday by giving 67 minutes 'to make an imprint and help change the world around them.' This year the Grade 7 learners knitted squares for 67 minutes to make blankets for those less fortunate than themselves. Read more: http://www.southafrica.info/mandela/67minutes.htm#ixzz1fgrGuHZk
| Casual Day
Fish Hoek Primary joined South Africa in the fun by dressing like rockstars on Casual Day, Friday 7 September 2011. We made the school rock in our suits and our frocks - we wore our stickers and dressed as we pleased to support persons with disabilities. Read more: http://www.casualday.co.za/2011_campaign.html
